Women with very large breasts may experience numerous problems due to excessive weight of the breasts. These symptoms may include neck and back pain, deep shoulder strap grooving from the brassiere, and skin irritation. Additionally, the person may be overly self-conscious about her appearance and/or have difficulty fitting into clothing properly. If you suffer from any of these, Dr. Grover can help with among the best results from breast reduction in Newport Beach.

What is breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce the size of women’s breasts. Reasons for seeking breast reduction vary, but they are most commonly sought by women who suffer from breasts that are disproportionately large for the frame.

Breast reduction creates a smaller, lighter and firmer breast by removing skin, fat and glandular tissue. This creates a breast that is better shaped and proportionate to a woman’s body.

What are the different kinds of breast reduction surgeries?

There are five different breast reduction techniques that can be employed to reduce breast size and alleviate physical pain. These are:

  • Wise Pattern Breast Reduction – The most commonly used breast reduction procedure, because it allows the surgeon the most freedom to manipulate breast shape and proportion
  • Benelli Breast Reduction – The incision is made around the perimeter of the areola, but it is rarely used because it can cause the areola to flatten, stretch, and distort the shape of the breast
  • No Vertical Scar Breast Reduction – The most notable incision site is exchanged in favor of incisions that are easiest to hide, but this limits the surgeon’s ability to shape the breast. This procedure is mostly used to combat breast drooping
  • Scarless Breast Reduction – Liposuction is used to eliminate fat from the breast, but it cannot be used to remove other tissue or lift the breast
  • Vertical Breast Reduction – This is the best technique to use on women who have mildly to moderately large breasts, because of the incision size and site on the breast

Dr. Grover utilizes a short-scar technique for many of his Orange County breast reduction surgeries. This “vertical mammaplasty” technique avoids any scar beneath the breast, and provides a more shapely breast.

The procedure is performed using general anesthesia in either an inpatient or outpatient setting. The procedure may be covered by medical insurance if deemed medically necessary.

What is Recovery from Breast Reduction Surgery Like?

Generally, recovery from breast reduction surgery requires some time, but it leads to long-lasting results. Immediately after surgery, your newly-shaped breasts are bandaged and, in most cases, plastic tubes are at the surgery site to drain blood and other fluids. Drainage is a normal and expected component of the recovery process. You will be allowed to return home with prescribed medication to alleviate any discomfort.

Patients are advised to wear training bras or other supportive garments for about three months after the surgery. In addition, driving is discouraged as long as it is painful to wear a seatbelt; which could be the case for about eight weeks in most cases. Other strenuous activity such as exercise or heavy lifting must be avoided for the sake of minimizing the risk of aggravating the incision site and impairing the recovery process.

Enhance Comfort and Confidence With Breast Reduction

– by Dr. Grover

Breast reduction, also known as a reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure designed to reduce the size and weight of the breasts and to improve the appearance of the nipple areolar complexes. Women with large breasts often deal with chronic neck, back and shoulder pain; headaches; musculoskeletal chest pain; posture problems; rashes and skin irritations; and even hand numbness. Large breasts can limit physical activity that is necessary to maintain a healthy, fit lifestyle.

Breast Reduction FAQs

What are the risks associated with breast reduction surgery?

How long will it be before I feel normal?

The recovery from an Orange County breast reduction will require several weeks of rest and healing. Taking care of oneself during recovery is important, including eating healthy foods, staying hydrated, avoiding alcohol, and following all aftercare instructions. While every person heals at a slightly different rate, most patients feel well enough to return to work within a week to ten days, after no longer needing prescription pain medication. You will need about a month before you can return to more vigorous physical activities, including exercise.
