Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Grover, offers many options when it comes to facial rejuvenation. For many patients, an invasive surgical procedure may not be ideal or even necessary to achieve the results desired. A lot of patients are now finding the results they want with the use of Dermal Fillers.
Dermal Fillers are made of collagen, fat, hyaluronic acid and other substances. There are many different brands of Dermal Fillers available and each one has slightly different strengths and weaknesses. The main objective of the Dermal Filler is to fill out wrinkles by adding volume. Dermal Fillers are also used to enhance the lips or cheeks.
Let’s take a look at three popular Dermal Fillers…
Juvederm is made up of a hyaluronic acid and is biocompatible, meaning the body breaks it down and absorbs it like it would its own natural hyaluronic acid. Juvederm is most often used to treat the wrinkles and fold between your cheeks and nose and the parenthesis lines around the mouth. Juvederm is also used in enhancing the volume of the lips or cheeks. Results may last up to 6 months.
Radiesse is also biocompatible and is made of calcium hydroxylapatite. This is a product that stimulates your body’s growth of collagen in addition to increasing volume on it’s own. Radiesse works best for very deep lines around the nose and mouth and is not suitable for the lips or fine lines. Results can last up to one year.
Sculptra is unique from these other two in that it is a product meant simply to stimulate the increase of naturally produced collagen in the specific area treated. This means that you wont likely notice a change right away, but rather, over a gradual period of 3-6 months, you can notice a significant enhancement. Sculptra results can last as long as three or more years. Generally three injection appointments will be needed and Sculptra works best for those who need deep volume enhancement throughout the face.
