Dr. Grover is a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in scarless breast augmentations. He has perfected a surgical technique that allows patients to avoid visible scars — Transaxillary Endoscopic Breast Augmentation, also known as the TEBA technique. This scarless breast augmentation technique keeps all implant options open while avoiding scarring.

Breast augmentation is an incredibly popular cosmetic procedure that enhances the shape or size of a woman’s breasts. Some women opt for a breast augmentation to reverse the effects of age, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy on their breasts. Others opt for a breast augmentation to achieve a more desirable or curvaceous figure. However, the primary concern most patients have about breast augmentation is the possibility of scarring.

As with any surgical procedure, scars are inevitable. The surgeon has to make small incisions to insert the saline or silicone implants within the breast pocket. However, depending on the type, size, and material of the implant, the surgeon has various possibilities for the incision. The incision can be made under the breasts, around the areola, or in the armpits.

The Transaxillary Endoscopic Breast Augmentation (TEBA) Technique

– by Dr. Grover

Transaxillary Endoscopic Breast Augmentation (TEBA) is a surgical procedure wherein the incision is made through a crease in the underarm region. Dr. Grover makes a small 1.5” incision in the underarm, usually within an armpit crease, to make it virtually invisible. During this technique, an endoscope (a long tube with a camera) is used to insert the saline or silicone breast implant into the breast pocket.

The primary advantage of the TEBA technique is that there’s no visible scarring. Since the scar is placed within an armpit crease, it can only be seen upon close examination. It keeps all options open — patients can opt for saline or silicone implants either in front of or behind the pectoral muscles. Furthermore, an axillary incision doesn’t interfere with a patient's ability to breastfeed.

Benefits of Transaxillary Endoscopic Breast Augmentation

  • The scar is virtually invisible,
  • Suitable for saline or silicone implants.
  • Suitable for subglandular, subpectoral, or submuscular implant placement.
  • No interference with ability to breastfeed.

The Keller Funnel Method of Silicone Implant Placement

Dr. Grover uses the Keller Funnel method for silicone breast implant placement. The Keller Funnel is an FDA-approved device that allows surgeons to place silicone implants using smaller incisions. It’s a long tubular device with a narrow tip that’s inserted into the small axillary incision. Holding the Keller Funnel still, the silicone implant is placed from the upper end and gently squeezed into the breast pocket.

The Keller Funnel has a slippery coating that allows the silicone implant to slide gently through the incision. This procedure allows the surgeon to make extremely small incisions, further minimizing the scar’s visibility. Since this causes minimal trauma to the breast tissues, the post-operative recovery process is a lot smoother. Furthermore, this method also reduces the risk of capsular contracture and other complications.

Benefits of the Keller Funnel Method

  • Silicone implants can be placed through smaller incisions.
  • Reduces the risk of implant shell contamination and infections.
  • Reduces the risk of capsular contracture.
  • Minimizes the risk of the implant rupturing.
  • Facilitates faster postoperative healing and recovery.

Ideal Candidates for the Scarless TEBA Technique

Breast augmentation is a suitable procedure for anyone who wants to improve their breasts’ shape, size, or general appearance. If your breasts are smaller than you’d like or asymmetrical, you can opt for breast augmentation. The scarless TEBA technique is only suitable for primary breast augmentation patients without breast ptosis or droopy breasts.

To be eligible for Dr. Grover’s scarless breast augmentation, you shouldn’t have a history of breast augmentation surgeries, and your breasts should be sufficiently firm. If you’ve had a breast augmentation previously, Dr. Grover might recommend other surgical or incision styles for the procedure. He might also recommend a breast lift to address breast ptosis.

Generally speaking, you’re a suitable candidate for scarless breast augmentation if you:

  • Are in generally good physical health.
  • Have realistic expectations from the procedure.
  • Want to change your breasts’ shape or size.
  • Have sufficiently firm breasts.
  • Don’t have a history of breast augmentation surgeries.
  • Don’t have underlying medical conditions that preclude you from surgery.
  • Are a nonsmoker or willing to stop smoking before the surgery.

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your breasts, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Grover to discuss your eligibility for the scarless TEBA approach or other breast augmentation techniques.
